Early Church History
In 1925, the church was established at 9th and Banklick Street. Bro. Eugene Clifton and an elderly lady, Sis. West,
along with Bro. and Sis. Whittaker and Sis. Carpenter were some of the people who started the church. Sis. Whittaker
wanted to open a place in the neighborhood so it would be easier for the elderly people to get to church.
Then they moved to 35th and Decoursey. The church had no name so they just called it a mission. For awhile they had
no pastor. Bro. John Medley, Bro. Virgil Gibbs, Bro. Clayton Lawson and Bro. Roy Hopkins would come and preach and
help when they weren't having services else where. Bro. Medley would baptize those who got saved.
In 1935, Bro. Jack Runion became pastor. He remained the pastor, except for a brief period during which Bro. Ralph
Mooneyham pastored, until 1952. While the church was at 35th and Decoursey, Bro. and Sis. Chester Schell got saved.
In the 1940's the church moved to 4419 Decoursey Ave. By this time there had been enough men saved and added to
the church to organize and charter the church.
In 1952, Bro. Chester Schell became pastor. It was under his leadership that the church at 1710 Maryland Avenue was
built.
In 1992 the congregation was able to build a brand new church which is located at 5336 Taylor Mill Road.
